Path to the driver's license
1. First Aid Course (NHK)
The first aid course is the first step toward obtaining a learner's permit. It can be completed as early as age 16 and is valid for six years.
2. Learner driver application
After successfully completing the first aid course, you'll need the learner's permit form. You can download this form for the Canton of Zurich directly here, print it out, fill it out with your personal details, and attach a valid passport photo.
3. Eye test
Bring your printed, completed learner driver application with you to the eye test. The ophthalmologist or optician will enter the results of your eye test on it and confirm them. If you already have a valid eye test, you can also attach this confirmation to your learner driver application. The eye test is valid for two years.
4. Confirmation of your identity
To confirm your identity, you must go to the municipal administration or the traffic department to have your identity confirmed in person on your learner driver application. Bring your ID card/passport with you!
I recommend that you go directly to the road traffic office, then you can submit your learner driver application directly and save time!
5. Submitting the learner driver application
You can submit your learner driver application to the Road Traffic Office one month before your 16th birthday (Cat. A1) or your 17th birthday (Cat. B).
Don’t forget your passport photo now!
As already mentioned under 4, you can do this step together with the “confirmation of your identity” – hence my recommendation to do steps 4 & 5 directly at the road traffic office.
6. Theory test
After submitting your learner driver application, you will receive your access data so that you can register for the theory test after completing your best possible preparation.
There are many learning software: Certainly a good preparation for learning and for the exam simulation is

Before the exam, you are welcome to contact me and make an appointment to address any questions or concerns.

The learner's permit will be issued to you after you pass the theory test and sent to your home. The learner's permit is valid for two years. After this period, you can apply for a second learner's permit.
7. Practical driving training
With a valid learner’s permit, practical driving training can begin.
On private learning trips, the accompanying person must be at least 23 years old and hold a full driving license for the relevant category.
8. Traffic education (VKU)
The VKU consists of four parts. Part 1 must be attended first to confirm attendance at the other three parts.
Part 1: Hazard theory/safety theory and sense organs (must be attended first)
Part 2: Partner customer and street customer
Part 3: Vehicle condition, driving physics and traffic movement theory
Part 4: Driving skills, tactical rules and environmental awareness
9. Practical driving test
After completing the VKU course and being ready to take the test, I can register you for the practical driving test (provided you have completed the statutory 12-month learning period). After passing the test, you will receive a provisional driver's license.
10. 2-phase training WAB
The mandatory continuing education course has been reduced from two (2) days to one (1) and must be completed within the first year after the driver's license test. It includes practical exercises and exposure to driving situations under realistic conditions.
